Please note that all pages in this web site have been prepared for loading speed for a variety of modems and a variety of platforms, except for this example page. Each web site owner or designer decides the relative importance of smashing graphics versus the rapid transfer of information. The screen captured image below is from our previous site. Compare it with its newer version -- the page in this web site called Persuasive Marketing. The image below took about 40 seconds to load using a 28.8 modem (hotel standard) on a laptop computer with 128 megs of ram. The newer version takes less than half that time with the same hardware, primarily because large graphic files were eliminated in the updated version. If your goal is to demonstrate graphic superiority (as designers must do) or to communicate a "with it" modern jazziness (as many marketers who favor teens must do), you will place more importance on your graphics than either of these versions of Persuasive Marketing. But if your goal is to rapidly present information so you make faster sales, a site with less graphics and preferably optimized for downloading speed is in order. The web site you are visiting now uses smaller, faster to load images. The text is all in web-standard fonts even though René Gnam has over 900 Type 1 display fonts for your print or mail advertising needs. Yes, decisions confront you. René Gnam can help you resolve them. |
